From Fr. Kitsmiller

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The fictional English detective, Sherlock Holmes, used to say that his work was his reward when asked about his need for remuneration. This should be the attitude of the workers in the parable in this Sunday’s Gospel. The vineyard which represents the Kingdom of God is an immeasurable gift to the world. It includes eternal life with God and His saints for eternity, a gift beyond our imagination. We cannot earn the gift. It is a generous offer to all – those who live the Gospel all their lives and those who convert at the 11th hour. The joy and fulfillment which this gift brings us can only be experienced completely in heaven and it cannot be measured by anything in this world. Nevertheless, God allows us to work in His kingdom here on earth. By doing so, we can help others have this gift and also make a real contribution to our eternal happiness by selfless and joyful work here on earth.
