Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As we enjoy the last few days of the joyful Season of the Resurrection, we start getting ready to welcome the Season of Pentecost: the Season of Divine Love and Generosity. Throughout its history, the Human Race has received from the loving Father three precious, unique and unrepeatable gifts: [in the following weeks, we will talk about the other two gifts] The First Gift is the gift of Life and the Image of the Father: Out of Love, at the dawn of Creation before “He rested from all of his work” (Genesis 2:1), the Almighty Father created the Humans “in his own image,” blessed them and gave them the authority and the ability to “rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground” (Genesis 1:27-28).
The Gospel of this Sunday (John 15:9-17) invites us to mediate upon this love that emanates from the Father’s heart and flows towards His Only Begotten Son and all of us, His children. The two key verses of this passage are: “As the Father loves me, so I love you,” and “I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit.” It was not us who chose Jesus, but He who chose us out of love:
- He chose us to have His complete Joy;
- He chose us to be loved;
- He chose us to be His friends;
- He appointed us to bear fruit: love God and love one another;
- He appointed us to bear fruit: glorify the Father and believe in His Son by the grace of His Holy Spirit.
God bless your hearts with joy and your life with love.
