My brothers and sisters, As we celebrate Independence Day during this long weekend; we are reminded and grateful for the many freedoms in our great nation. One of the great freedoms which we enjoy is the freedom of religion and the freedom to practice our Faith in public life. Today, let us thank God for this freedom which we enjoy and to which many of our brothers and sisters, especially in the Middle East, are not able to enjoy. Let us also be mindful of how fundamental this freedom of religion is to us, as a fundamental right, not only as Catholics, but also as Americans; and let us strive to defend this right, and continue to practice it within our public lives and how we live in the midst of the world. Have a great week!
